About Care4KidsNow

Care4KidsNow is a student-led initiative, founded in 2024, dedicated to making health and science education free, accessible, and engaging for children from all backgrounds. Through hands-on activities, creativity, and play, we help children explore how their bodies work in a way that feels approachable, memorable, and fun.

Our signature activities include Play-Doh organ-system kits, illustrated health pamphlets written for elementary-aged readers, and seasonal workshops that bring health and science topics to life. Rather than relying on lectures, we encourage children to build, create, and ask questions. Kits are distributed in person at our workshops and mailed directly to families, classrooms, and partner organizations that request them, which allows our materials to reach children well beyond the communities where we hold events.

To date, Care4KidsNow has led 25 or more workshops, distributed 1,500 or more hands-on educational kits through workshops and direct mail, and reached over 400 children in person.

Kamila Lickunas founded Care4KidsNow after her own experiences as a patient showed her how much confidence comes from clear, age-appropriate health information, and how unevenly that information reaches children. What began as a single workshop with a set of homemade kits has grown into a network of student volunteers with chapters in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and New York.

Care4KidsNow partners with community organizations including Belong! Vienna, which supports children and families in Northern Virginia, and Baby Scientist, Inc., founded by Dr. Kristy L. McDowell and serving communities in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Through every workshop and every resource, our goal is to make health education less intimidating and more accessible, and to help children develop curiosity and confidence in science and in their own health.
